2025 Projects

We are excited to offer a range of archaeological opportunities for serving personnel, service leavers (within one year of exit), and their families. These projects provide hands-on experience in archaeology, working alongside experts to uncover history.

The Projects

  • Join the internationally renowned Norton Disney History and Archaeology Group (NDHAG) to explore a fascinating Roman site. This excavation focuses on industrial and domestic archaeology, with opportunities to work alongside experienced volunteers.

    • Dates: Week 1 (3–6 June), Week 2 (9–13 June)

    • Spaces: 2 per week (1-week commitment)

    • Age: 18+

    • Cost: £10 per person payable to the NDHAG

  • A fully funded (apart from food and accommodation if required), two-week archaeology summer school at BGU, normally valued at £2000. Participants will work on a multiperiod excavation alongside students and lecturers, gaining hands-on experience and academic insight.

    • Dates: Session 1 (9–20 June), Session 2 (23 June–4 July)

    • Spaces: 2 per session (2-week commitment)

    • Age: 16+ (under 18s must be accompanied by a participating parent/guardian)

    • Cost: Free

  • community-led excavation using test pits to explore Lincoln’s hidden past. This collaborative project will engage multiple institutions and local volunteers.

    • Dates: Session 1 (11–13 July), Session 2 (18–20 July)

    • Spaces: 12 per session (3-day commitment)

    • Age: All ages (under 18s must be accompanied by a participating parent/guardian)

    • Cost: Free

  • This new non-invasive archaeology project will use geophysics and surveys to investigate a historic village, laying the groundwork for future excavations. A fantastic opportunity to contribute to long-term heritage research.

    • Dates: 8–10 August

    • Spaces: 15–20 participants (3-day commitment)

    • Age: All ages (under 18s must be accompanied by a participating parent/guardian)

    • Cost: Free
